Job Title: Area Sales Manager

Reports To: Depot Sales Manager

Job location: Wilton

Job Purpose:

The sale of agricultural equipment to potential and existing customers in a designated area in order to deliver revenue and profitability in line with company budget. Working in association with suppliers to achieve key sales and financial targets set by the management.

Key Accountabilities

  • Achieve individual annual sales budget whilst respecting sales department financial objectives set by the management
  • Prioritise the sale of wholegoods inventory ahead of new build
  • Ensure trade-in machines are assessed and valued correctly
  • Production of customer quotations seeking advice from retail finance advisors and in line with company guidelines
  • Deliver quantity of customer quotes, in line with individual objective set by management
  • Arrange and conduct machinery demonstrations
  • Negotiate, handle objections and close sales
  • Maintaining an accurate territory customer database and sales diary
  • Using customer relationship management system to assist in territory & customer planning
  • Maximising customer contact time, in line with agreed objectives, identification and contact of potential customers
  • Introduce new customers to aftersales departments
  • Liaison and communication with customers, colleagues, manufacturers and suppliers
  • Keep abreast of best farming practices and promotional trends
  • Implementation of company health & safety procedures


  • Preparation of manual sales orders
  • Provide Service Department with accurate and timely advice on machine PDI
  • Maintaining accurate database of all customer quotes
  • Working with a sales diary and planner
  • Produce monthly sales reports and deal information – Coverage & Conversion
  • Liaison with sales department administration


  • Management of territory customer database

  • Utilisation of company IT system and reports


  • Keep sales colleagues and management fully aware of sales activity within territory
  • Liaison and communication with customers, colleagues, manufacturers and suppliers
  • Provide input to weekly update & planning meetings with Service and Parts counterparts
  • Monthly sales meetings – sharing of relevant sales news and progress
  • Provision of accurate used inventory information to Marketing for advertising purposes
  • Working closely with company Marketing team to ensure full customer reach and raise company and suppliers’ brand awareness

Job Dimensions

Staff: To work as part of a team

Planning: Weekly planning of sales territory. Planning of customer payment, either cash or finance to minimize any negative impact on company cashflow

Confidential Information: Customer Database, Prices, Discounts, Profit Margins and similar commercial information.

Degree of Supervision: Works closely with and managed by Depot Sales Manager

Working Conditions: Based at depot of responsibility. Customer visits and supplier meetings or training events when required.

Equipment and Tools: Company vehicle, PC, mobile phone and IT based applications.

At times the post-holder will be expected to perform duties outside of this job description in order to ensure the maintenance of a high level service to our customers

Person Specification

  • Knowledge of agricultural equipment is essential
  • Highly motivated with leadership qualities and target driven
  • Prioritising, time management, planning and organisational skills
  • Able to deliver high levels of customer service
  • Good communicator with well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Competent PC skills and administrative ability
  • Familiarity with CRM practices
