A Brief History 

C & O Tractors Ltd now boasts five depots in Dorset, Wiltshire, Isle of Wight and West Sussex with seventy five employees. The company was formed in the early seventies by Mr Edward Coles and at this time the company bought and sold Agricultural Tractors, Machinery and associated spare parts. As quality used tractors and spares become more and more in demand the company expanded and started to export both tractors and spares. In 1993 Edwards's son Andy Coles came on board the family company and today is Managing Director of the entire group (Edward has since retired).

In June 2000 this was a dramatic turning point for the growth of C & O Tractors Ltd when they took over the trading and the premises for the New Holland franchised areas of two depots at Blandford Forum and Wilton from Stanley Pond Limited who had traded in agricultural engineering since 1753. Since then C & O Tractors Ltd have added many top brand franchises to the list Kuhn, Marston, McConnell, Bomford, Teagle, Rolland, Twose, McHale, Honda, Hayter, Stihl, Lawnflite, MTD, etc to name a few! We have also ventured into the construction, horticultural and groundcare areas, which are expanding well. All the depots carry a wide range of stocked items (covering most of the manufacturers) in their respective Parts Departments, and also have ample workshop facilities, where servicing and maintenance is completed on most types of machinery, from a wide range of manufacturers, by fully qualified experienced and competent engineers. Including recharging of air conditioning, on any vehicle!

In January 2003 a depot was opened at Selsey, near Chichester which boasts selling 300 plus Agricultural Tractors of all sizes, to just one customer every year! This enables us to offer some excellent used low hour tractors and combine harvesters back out into the market.

In July 2004 C & O Tractors Ltd took over the running of the New Holland franchise on the Isle of Wight.

January 2005 saw the most recent acquisition, taking over responsibility of the New Holland trading area of Chichester and a new depot was opened at Midhurst to cover this area. This brand new depot is proving to be one of the most exciting ventures for C & O Tractors Ltd, and offers all the amenities of the other branches regarding the facilities of the workshop for repairs and servicing for all makes of machinery. Our Midhurst depot offers a huge range of machinery from small garden equipment, (from brush cutters to lawnmowers) to Combines along with a large range of equipment suitable for large estates, golf clubs, sports fields and local councils (ride-on mowers, professional Groundcare equipment, ATV's etc).

More recently we have strengthened the Board and have written a three year strategy that the Board are working towards to continually improve the company going forward.
